UCF Lake Nona Hospital Donates Lifesaving AED to Lake Nona Youth Sports |
Hospital's Generous Contribution Enhances Safety for Young Athletes |
In a significant move to bolster community health, UCF Lake Nona Hospital has donated an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to Lake Nona Youth Sports.
This lifesaving device, valued at $1,500, was presented to the organization's Board of Directors on September 11.
Sudden cardiac arrest is a leading cause of death among young athletes, making this donation particularly impactful.
According to the American Heart Association, over 356,000 sudden cardiac arrests occur outside hospitals annually in the U.S.
Having an AED on-site can be the difference between life and death.
Wendy Brandon, CEO of UCF Lake Nona Hospital, emphasized the hospital's commitment to community well-being.
She stated, "By providing access to tools like this AED, we can ensure young athletes are safe and their coaches and parent volunteers are prepared to respond in the event of a cardiac emergency."
Chaston Williams, director of tackle football and Pop Warner commissioner for Lake Nona Youth Sports, expressed deep gratitude.
He remarked, "Thanks to the servant leadership of Chief Nursing Officer Megan Koorn and Chief Executive Officer Wendy Brandon, Lake Nona Youth Sports is prepared to employ life-saving measures in the event of an unexpected medical emergency."
Lake Nona Youth Sports serves over 1,200 athletes and coaches in the Southeast Orlando area.
The organization offers various programs, including Pop Warner tackle football, co-ed flag football, lacrosse, and cheerleading.
By integrating safety measures like the AED, they continue to provide a secure environment for young athletes to thrive.
UCF Lake Nona Hospital, located in the heart of Orlando's Medical City, is a 64-bed, full-service medical and surgical acute care facility.
As a partnership between the University of Central Florida and HCA Healthcare, the hospital offers 24/7 emergency care, advanced surgical services, and innovative technologies to serve the Lake Nona community and beyond.
This donation underscores the hospital's dedication to community engagement and the health and safety of all residents. |
